- Hyundai is already testing the prototype mule
- The management is likely to decide the car's fate later this year
Hyundai’s N division has begun a new journey after BMW ’s performance man Albert Biermann took the reins of the Korean car maker’s performance arm almost a couple of years ago. The car in question is a mid-engine performance hatchback prototype which was spotted lapping the Nurburgring quite a few times.
There is absolutely no information available about the car except for the fact that it is a Hyundai, its engine is housed behind the front seats and it looks mad even with the camouflage on. Mid-engine hatchbacks grew popular towards the end of the controversial Group B era of the World Rally Championship thanks to their petite proportions, lightweight and amazing dynamics. The Lancia Delta S4, the Renault 5 Maxi Turbo and the MG Metro 6R4 dominated the rally-scene in the early 90s before the likes of the Impreza and the Evolution stormed in.
The mid-engine Hyundai hatchback looks pretty much complete for a prototype but there is still no news as to when can we expect it. Currently, the N division has developed it on their own as a concept. But it needs to be presented to the Hyundai management who will decide if this project would ever see the light of the day.
